I rode out alone year before last, then continued on to Yellowstone, etc. I rode with a buddy last year, after a week he headed home and I continued on to Glacier, Canada, etc. I really like riding alone. You only have to satisfy yourself and not worry about others needs. I also found that when you are with others, you talk with them. If you are by yourself, you talk with anyone. I met people from all over the world. Ride safe.

hey dave. just like the others stated. soo many people are going that you won't be alone unless you want to be. I went by myself in 2012 for my first time and I was fine. I camped and stayed at KOA campgrounds along the way. the only catch is they want you there by dark so it can make your riding day a bit short. depending on your route Chicago traffic sucks! It took me close to 1 1/2 hours to get thru Chicago in 95 degree heat. better have synthetic in your bike. I now stay on 80 all the way to 29 in Omaha and than go north to 90 in Sioux falls south Dakota. just get a KOA catalog from any campground and join for 30 bucks. you get 10% on stays.
I do plan on going and leaving Friday early august and riding out.
good luck and have fun!
