Default Bypassing Chattanooga question

I'm going to be travelling from the Cherokee, NC area to north Alabama on a Sunday, passing through the Chattanooga area early afternoon. I'm not real fond of the I75-I24 route through Chattanooga and am mostly travelling on state highways. I'm thinking of bypassing Chattanooga to the south. My thought is to ride Hwy 2 through Fairview to Hwy 193, go south on 193 to Hwy 136 and take it west through Trenton and into Alabama. To anyone familiar with the area, is there any reason I shouldn't take this route? Suggestions on a better way?

TIA.

Beautiful ride.

Depending upon where you are going, might turn on 157 south and see some of Lookout Mtn. to Little River Canyon/Desoto Falls.

Eat at Wildflower Cafe in Mentone.

Thanks Roundhead. I've got a couple potential routes planned out depending on timing and weather when we pass through. I appreciate your input.

What timing! I just went that way and I agree. I rode up from Houston to the Dragon area this week. That roadway is pretty bad. And this is coming from a guy who travels in Houston!

I went on a Monday afternoon (about 3pm) and it was way worse than when i went thru a few days later around 1pm. The locals say during the week go early after morning rush. Didnt think to ask them about the weekends Still...too many people and not enough freeway.

Sunday seems like less 18 wheelers but more folks out and about maybe?....please update with what you did...

Enjoy...thats a fantastic area

We had a last minute change of plans. Were going to go to Maggie Valley this past weekend. Weather forecast for the area was on the cold and wet side, so we bailed on that and went to the beach instead. I'll take warm and sunny over cold and wet anytime. :-)

We're probably going to try this trip next spring.
