Mom & Pop motels (cheap)

Mom & Pop motels (cheap)
This September I take off with two other retired geezers for a six week bucket list trip out west. Since we're old and arthritic, there won't be much camping involved. So we want to cut motel expenses as much as possible.
I'm looking for any inexpensive motels along Rt. 50 from Ohio to Nevada, all of Colorado and Utah as well as the northern tier of New Mexico and Arizona.
Any hints or recommendations would be appreciated. For my part I'll start with a favorite when I ride the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Country View Inn, in Fancy Gap, VA. It's about two miles off the BRP and a hundred yards from I-77 exit 8. $32. a night. I stay there 3 or 4 times a year.
Thank you.

If you are doing Zion NP, I stayed in one located in Mt Carmel that was clean and cheaper than others in the area.
Last year, me and a buddy rode CO for two weeks and I booked KOA camping cabins. They were a lot cheaper than motels. They sleep three. It is better than a tent, but not as comfortable as a motel bed.

doc ock and Grandslam, thanks. Since the desert part of Rt. 66 and Death Valley is on our list, Laughlin is a strong maybe and Zion a yes, hitting it on the return. I checked some places on the mom and pop link and looked in Maggie Valley where I ride to each year. First motel I see, I know has been closed for the last two years. I might use the site, but oh yeah, call ahead.
I hope that some riders will chime in here on places they have actually stayed in. That's why I posted a regular stop of mine.
I was checking on KOA camping cabins in Colorado last week. This could be something that would work very well. By bedding, what all is needed? Is it cot or twin bed size? Sheets, blankets, pillow cases? And for three, does one of us geezers have to climb into an upper bunk?
I camped all over the west in '78. The last time the other guys slept on the ground was in Vietnam. We might bring sleeping bags and tents for an emergency but...old and candyass.

Buzzard, we carried a small camp pillow and sleeping bag for the KOA cabins. The ones we stayed in had a full bed and a set of bunk beds. They are log furniture with about a 4" mattress. My buddy took the bunk beds and doubled up the mattress.
Here is a link to the motel I stayed at near Zion.
