Default Houston to Sturgis 2017

Riding to Sturgis this year from Houston. Taking the Colorado route, staying in Hill City. Been five times in recent years but always trailered. I'll be 65 this Fall so if I'm going to make the ride now's the time. Just bought a '17 Ultra Limited Low and it's a game changer for this 5'8", 30" inseam "old fart" rider. I was ready to give up riding or go to a trike. No more. Love this bike. Best Harley I've ever ridden.
If you'd like to ride with me give me a shout. Leaving Houston on the 3rd (Thursday) arriving Saturday. I figure 500-600 miles first day (Amarillo?), same second day, and 300 miles 3rd day arriving Hill City mid-day Saturday.

I'm going to take the Amarillo/Colorado route this year. Always took the Ok City/ Wichita, Kansas route when trailering but it was mind numbingly boring.....nothing but flat prairie and corn fields. The Colorado route is slightly further but should be more scenic.

I'm leaving Houston on the 3rd (Thu) and taking 2 1/2 days to get to Hill City. I plan on leaving the following Sunday arriving back in Houston Tue evening. I'm going to pick my wife up Sunday at the Rapid City airport.

IMO you will not see anything scenic until you get north of Denver. That is a long way from Houston.

It will be worth it when you get to the Black Hills.

The first time I rode up, I thought about all the fence posts I had passed. Lots of fence posts and corn fields.

Dallas/FW is a b_tch.

Ride safe and STAY HYDRATED.

The Colorado route may not be exactly "scenic" but at least it will be different than the Okla/Kansas/Nebr route which we've trailered several times. I've seen enough hot, flat corn fields to last a life time. I hope to set the cruise on 75 and maybe make decent time. I'll be riding solo so won't have to worry about my wife's comfort on the ride up.
