Adventures with the "Scorpios"

Great thread! Our family vacationed in Aruba in 2005. One of our adventures was to rent Jeep’s and we toured the windward side of the island. We have pictures of some of us on the Natural Bridge. It collapsed one week after our visit. Maybe I shouldn’t have eaten that full rack of Ribs at Smokey Joes.
We we have visited many of the Caribbean islands. Each one is a little different. Aruba was our favorite for family vacations. It has beautiful beaches in the leeward side, many great restaurants, and good entertainment. Yes, it is very arid. It is also the least 3rd world of all the islands we visited.
My my wife and I and various friends have done many bareboat sailboat charters in the Virgin Islands. Bareboat is when you rent the boat, get it stocked with beer & rum...and other necessities, and sail away island hopping with me as skipper. It’s our favorite area for tropical vacationing without kids, we haven’t been there since the wiped it. Out. When I get around to it, I’ll post some pictures.

Adventures with the “”Scorpios”
January 12, 2019.
Today is our last full day on the island of Aruba as we fly back home to the cold Canadian weather tomorrow.
But, as always we are looking forward to our next winter getaway in a month or so.
So yesterday we headed for the north beach area to check it out. They certainly do have some beautiful beaches on this island. After that, we headed to the low rise area, stopped in and had a drink at the bar at Costa Linda.
As we have our “Happy Hour” every Friday back home in the man cave, we decided we needed to do happy hour here on the island. So, off we went to the “Beach Bar” that has happy hour daily from 1pm - 7pm.
Then Suzie and I went for a nice dinner at a resturant called “Papiamento”. The food here was excellent!
So, alas this Scorpio adventure is coming to a close.
Thanks to everyone for allowing us to share our memories!
Cheers, Terry

A beautiful memory of an Aruban sunset!

Adventures with the “Scorpios”
February 20, 2019.
Alas, after fighting the cold Ontario and Canada weather, our next adventure now begins.
Today we are now in Toronto, and thankfully the weather co-operated for the 3 hour drive here. The prediction for the freezing rain never amounted to anything, at least not yet.
Tomorrow we are off to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico to enjoy a couple of weeks of warmer climate.
We, as always, will post some pics of our latest adventure.
Cheers, Terry

After a long day of travel out of Toronto we arrived in Puerta Vallarta Mexico.
We must say it is a welcome change in the weather after the cold back home.
Our resort is the all inclusive Buena Ventura in Zona Romantica.
Internet is a little spotty here so will try and upload photos when we can.
Cheers, Terry

Cervesa Time!
Margaritas!

Friday and yesterday we walked the area around where our resort is located.
Stopped at a bar called “Captains Don’s”. Seemed to be a popular place for all the locals and expats.
Tomorrow we will venture north by public bus to visit friends in the Marina district.
More posts to follow.
Cheers, Terry

The last couple of days have been pretty much relaxing, although we did take a walk the other night to investigate the Malacon area.
Then yesterday we took the public transit (15-20 min ride) up to the marina area north of us here in Puerta Vallarta.
We have other excursions planned, all on our adventure to try and finds suitable accommodations to rent for a couple of months next winter.
More posts and pictures as we share our adventures here.
Cheers, Terry
Relaxing at the pool at our resort.
A walk along the boardwalk at the Malacon area south of our resort.

Adventures with the “Scorpios”
March 01, 2019.
Wednesday we took an excursion to Nuevo Vallarta, some 12 miles up the coast. An elegant spot with many top name resorts (3 Riu’s). Looked a great place to stay if you are a “stay on the resort” type of people.
Not much in this area within walking distance. We could not find a restaurant or bar to even sit down and have a drink.
So then, we hailed a taxi and went to the quaint town of Bucerias.
An area with flea market type shops and a beautiful beach. We stayed for a couple of hours, ventured around, stopped and had a cervesa, and then grabbed a taxi and headed back to Puerta Vallarta.
A couple of more excursions planned before we head home on Thursday.
Cheers, Terry
A cruise ship in port at the bus transfer point.
US Coast Guard in at port.

Another trip down to the Melacon on Friday.
Stopped for lunch, did a little sightseeing and Mrs. Scorpio did some shopping.
Cheers, Terry
The Melacon boardwalk.
The beach from the Melacon looking north.
Lunch at the “Devils Bar”
Many shops along the Melacon route.
The sign says it all!
Haven’t seen many Harleys but came across this Bergman parked on the street.

Today is our last full day here in Puerta Vallarta as we fly home back to Canada tomorrow.
We have enjoyed an awesome time and plan to return next year to this area if we can find suitable accommodations for us to rent for a couple of months.
Yesterday we ventured into the mountain side to a great rib place that was recommended by my brother and his wife.
It was called El-Rio and this place didn’t disappoint. The ribs were super delicious!
Next post will be when we are back in cold Canada hoping for the weather to warm up.
Thanks for following along!
Sorry folks, I tried to download the pictures this morning but the internet here sucks big time!
I will definately post when we return home.
Cheers, Terry

We made it home and back to Canada early this morning after the flight from Puerta Vallarta, and then the 3 hour drive from Toronto home.
As promised, attachd are the photos from our final days in Puerta Vallarta.
It was a great vacation.
Now all we need is the weather to warm up, and bring out the Harleys!
Cheers, Terry
The El-Rio jungle restaurant in the hills of Puerta Vallarta. Excellent bands all day here and delicious ribs. We highly recommend it!
On the edge of a stream and mile high cliff.
Quite a feed of ribs and an ice cold Pacifico!
Cheers!
We ventured to El-Rio with friends Jim & Pat from Cobourg Ontario that we met at our resort.
View of the hillside and street outside the El-Rio.
Another view looking up the hillside.
