Default Colorado in late September or early October?

My buddies and I want to plan a week long ride and Colorado has been on our list for a while. Are the passes and higher elevations reasonably rideable in the late September/early October time frame or should we shoot for early September? We live in Vegas and the later we leave the better it is for us as it's so darn hot until October in the desert.

Thanks for reading and your advice.

Late September is getting dicey in the high country. After September 1st, snow is possible at any time. The later the greater the possibility of snow. Be prepared for freezing nights and hot days up there. Beautiful time to ride up there if the weather cooperates.

Mid to late September the aspens will be turning colors. Absolutely a great time to see the Rockies! I usually make a long weekend trip there every year. The nights will be chilly, dress accordingly.

Thanks guys. What I'm getting from you is that it should be nice ride but I could possibly run into some weather, mostly cold in the mornings/nights

That is correct. All 4 seasons are possible on the same day!

Was wondering the same thing.I'm leaving the 8th for two weeks. Going up Million Dollar Hwy up to Yellowstone then on to the Black Hills.Figured it was the best time, schools back and things should be settled down a little.

I drove into a mini snow storm on Trail Ridge Road (I believe that is what it is called) in July about 20 years ago. Not sure how common that is but now I know to be prepared for anything when you're around 12,000 feet.
I'd like to do that again now that I have fuel injection. The old carbureted e glide really struggled to get up there.

Just remember that there is about a 10 degree drop in daily highs and not as much in lows from the 1st of September to late September in the higher elevations.

I suggested to my crew that we try to get this done the weekend of 9/8 - we'll see what the consensus is with the group. Thanks for the info
