Planned Road Trip 2019
Does anyone here live on the east coast AND have trekked west on a road other than I70? Next July I plan on riding to Jackson Hole Wyoming, and wanted to see if anyone had any advice on a way to travel that is scenic. I live in Pa and the only way I ever travel west is to take 70W, but don’t like doing it on a bike. I have family that lives in Kansas, which will be my end point before coming back home. I did a Route 66 tour in 2017 on a Softail Slim all the way to New Mexico. So traveling 5 to 600 miles in a day is not a problem for me. SO FAR. Also, anything I should do other than cruise pegs and a reach seat I should put on my bike for extra comfort? Was thinking of a back rest. Luggage rack is on the way. (2018 Street Glide) picture posted is when I got to Mid point in Adrian Texas in 2017

I haven’t been between PA and Wyoming...but for yuks I asked what Google maps thought, and she recommended I-80. What I typically do in your situation, is use a route planner like “inRoute”. Then I set start and end locations, and look at interesting roads (look at them with Google Street) and interesting locations and set them as waypoints,
in 2 days we are leaving on a 2 week, 5,000 mile trip, and that’s how I planned my trip.
Make sure you visit Yellowstone. The ride from Jackson through Teton National Park to Yellowstone is beautiful. Then of course Yellowstone is awesome. Then south out of Jackson along the Snake river is incredible! We’ll be in that area next July.

Sweet and thanks for the tips. Just got done downloading Google street’s now, I just had the map app that looks cartoonish. More than likely I’ll be leaving Saturday July 6 at Zero dark thirty, that’s my plan right now for KSU. Nice thing is, I-80 isn’t to far from me, about 45 minutes to the north.

There's a lot of "nothing to see" country crossing the plains.
I've done it a few times (twice on a bike) and honestly, that's what trailers and an air conditioned vehicle is made for!
I'd trailer (which I have also done several times) to a location where you can safely store your "rig" and then ride over the scenic roads.
Trailering (especially if you have two drivers) allows you to maximize your vacation time and to arrive home more rested.
We've (the wife and I) have had some great trips like this and another benefit (hopefully you'll never need) is that if you should have a serious breakdown or an accident, the means to get you and/or your bike(s) home is not far away.
On one trip, we parked our rig in Clovis, NM and did a 2200 mile "loop" on the bikes and got home in less than three weeks and we got to see and do a lot of things that we ould not have done if we had chosen to ride the bikes the full distance of the trip.
I know many will not agree, but it works for us!
