Blue Ridge Parkway weather end of May
#11
You never know. At my end there is a lot of great riding off the BRP/SLD thing. Actually, I think better riding. If it is nasty here it may be great over in WV or the western side of Shen valley. Gotta be flexible. I have been down south end a few times and it is no different. Nice day out in the Dakotas and next thing it was black, blowing, and hail the size of big marbles beating the **** out of me--what a hoot. At least I didn't run into any pissed off bison standing in the middle of the road in all that mess, no tornado thankfully, and the rest of the ride made the crummy part very, very worth it. I hope that you have a good ride.

GENERAL "rule of thumb" the BRP is about 5 degrees cooler, than the area below.
This weekend highs are forecast for upper-80s, to low 90s, and the weather looks to be clear and sunny...
Normally the warm air rises on the western flanks, and it's not unusual for storms to "pop up" on the western side, while the eastern side is clear and dry
We've been there in mid May, and have had frost, - lows in the 20s, - highs in the 80s - terrible storms - clear sunny days
Take your normal gear with you, and include at least one heavy sweat shirt... Rain Gear, can work as an extra layer, in the cold,
Check with local weather stations before you take your trip
enjoy

Leaving south Florida June 3. going thru Atlanta to 575 over to Tallulah falls GA then looping around the back roads to Franklin,NC.
from there get over to Tale of the dragon and taking the CHEROHALA SKYWAY/UNICOI TPKE and Wayah rd back to Franklin
Then heading over to Cherokee and picking the BRP and staying on it to the North end in VA then home to MD.
Plan on leaving right after sunrise each day, will fog be a problem in early June.
With the restricted speed limit how many miles a day can you cover on the BRP

Athens GA . Take 10 around Athens then pick up 441 N again to 23 N to Tallulah
Falls . It's a nice easy ride with a lot of 4 lane in GA that has 65 mph speed limit &
very light traffic usually .

UPDATE:
We rode up to the BRP yesterday....
one week ago, when we decided to go, the forecast was for mid-80s
by the time yesterday rolled around, forecast was for mid-90s
Ride up was pleasant, ride ON the BRP was pleasant...
ride home, had me hunting for every shady road I could think of
