Thinking Road trip all the way to Sault St Marie and back.
Thinking of leaving NC driving through the hills through Ohio, then up sort of shadowing I75 ish all the way in to Canada then east from Sault Ste Marie then on Manotoulin island. Then take the ferry to the mainland then a stop in Cambridge Ontario to visit Mrs Notgrownup’s friend then back home through the Allegheny Mountains and maybe through Amish country or not. We like to plan but not in stone. We’re pulling a trailer behind the trike so packing is not an issue. This is the plan anyway in the beginning of August.

In 2017. I went through that country… Including taking the ferry… That part of the trip starts here…

We spent a few hours watching the freighters coming through the Soo Locks. It's amazing how fast they move those monsters from one elevation to the next.
After a few days in the U.P. our bike was covered in dead bugs from front to back, even the ends of the mufflers.
Safe travels, and enjoy the ride.

Mackinac Bridge is down to two lanes and 35 mph. There are some nice places to visit while traveling north thru the Lower Peninsula, Harbor Springs to Cross Village (119) with a stop at Leggs Inn for one. The Locks from the American side are a bit more interesting, no large ships pass thru the Canadian lock. This area is my back yard, if you have any questions hit me up.

Shadowing I-75 is a good idea ... As mentioned, along Lake Huron or Lake Michigan will provide much better scenery and usually less congestion ... There are a number of great areas so you really can't go wrong ... A trip across the bridge can be exhilarating especially if you ride over the grating ( nothing scary though ) On a windy day the speeds will be reduced ... Mackinaw City is pretty much your typical tourist trap ... The Keyhole has good burgers
