Default NJ to FL...backroads?

I am thinking of riding down to Delray Beach, FL from NJ this summer. I know I can take 95 the whole way but does anyone know of a route taking backroads dowwn the east coast?

I live in Delray, hmm, not really any options other than US1 which is kinda slow, you might do better getting over to the Turnpike for the last few hours which is probably not as busy as 95. A1A is also nice but max speed 35mph.

You can do 13 through DE and across Baybridge tunnel into
Chesapeake Va pick up 17. Take that all the way to north of Savanah. My memory is scetchy after that sorry. 95 is close to there and you can ride that for a while. Warning 17 is back roads lol but that is what you asked for.

RT 13, Bay Bridge Tunnel, Rt 17 , Yulee Fl pick up 1a, Take ferry across St john River then pick up A1A to Daytona area then rt 1.....

If you want inland take the Blue ridge Parkway the full length, then pick up Rt 17 to Savannah area then follow the 1a and A1a along the coast

Rt 17 goes thru many towns,cities...
yes lights..

Headache spots would be Norfolk, Wilmington, Myrtle beach, Charlestown, Savannah.
Brunswick Ga and south it's pretty spread out.
Jax Beach (after ferry) you have about 7 miles to deal with...

Rt 17 is a general route.. Plenty of areas with no lights.
only problem is where you have to cross rivers and they are usually in a town area.
Sure..... there is alot of 1-3 lights towns.

I really like the outer banks in NC. take 13 south from Wilmington to Virginia Beach then follow 168 to the outer banks. Follow 12 to Okracoke Isl. Take the ferry to Cedar Isl. NC then follow 17 south to Fla.
Stay at Pony Island hotel in Ockracoke and you can walk to Howard's Pub, a great place to hang on the island. Don't be in a hurry, explore, see Kitty Hawk, Hatteras Light, have a great ride.

agreed, I live in the OBX, come spend some money here. We are broke.

17 is a nice ride, I take it alot, from Baltimore (301) to Charleston, most of the trouble areas now have bypass around, also much of 17 is 60mph now.
