Default Chrome problem on 01 SERG wheels

Has anyone had chrome peeling, checking, or bubbling on their wheels? I bought a set of the original Thunderstar wheels for my 01 Road glide SE. After 2,000 miles and less than 1 year the chrome started checking and bubbling/blistering. I have spoken with Harley and basically have been told too bad. I have also spoken with someone who does chroming for HD and have been told they had these problems with a factory in Australia and this factory went bankrupt. Harley then bought it and straightened it out. Can anyone set me straight on this and has anyone had the same problem?

My 01 made it about four years before they started pitting. It was the rear wheel first.

I have 01 that started pitting/bubbling last year on wheels and a couple of years ago on mirrors. Bike only has 20k and is garaged.

Not a problem here! My ride has just turned 42000 on the odometer and is ridden all year round. Glad to see a post about our older bikes even if it is a complaint.

Have 01 blue SERG....not a problem with the wheels at all, the mirrors did fade and pit, I am going to change them shortly. Bike has 35,000 miles, remanufactured engine last year basically due to inept HD dealer in Georgia....but thats another story. I am told the older FI system is outdated and downloads are no longer available. Added a power commander which worked out well, still isnt 100% all the time. But I love the bike, I had an opportunity to demo a 09 SERG in New Hampshire last week. Granted its a controlled ride, but my 01 runs just as well...and it came with a tour pack .
