Default 77 flh kickstart install

Need some help here. Got a kickstart kit from drag specialties for Christmas. Part number DS-241027. Installed the kit but now my electric starter won't engage. It just "clicks". Battery is charged. What did I do wrong or miss? As you may have guessed the kit came with zero instructions so I used my service manual.

Unless you jammed the gears it shouldn't affect the electric starter. Does the kick starter work and disengage? Check your starter, battery, solenoid and relay connections. You may have loosened something up installing the kit.

KickStart kit has zero to do with e-Start
Unless you were smart and disconnected the battery when working on bike, and battery connections are not clean/tight.
What does your [requisite] digital meter say the battery voltage is?

try kicking it and pressing the starter button at the same time - if by turning it - the new kicker gear set up - the wrong direction you have the gear wound out into the clutch ring gear that will clear it --

I just added a kicker to my 76 FLH a few months ago. I agree that a little bit of instructions would go a long way. It's not too difficult to figure out, but my kit came with extra parts. It was toughest to determine what to use and what to leave out. One or two parts, I still don't know what they were for.
It works perfectly.

The recent kits I've seen come with two oil deflectors and two bumper plates. In late 78 they changed the bumper plate and in 80 they changed the deflector. The oil deflector mounts to the retainer plate and sits over the starter clutch. The bumper is installed at the 5 o'clock position to protect the case from the pin on the starter crank gear.

Thanks.

As I mentioned, simple instruction sheet would go a very long way.

I installed a kicker on 74-74 from Drag Specialties in late summer early fall and had no issues at all. I removed my battery box for better access to everything, so perhaps you don't have a good ground or loose connections somewhere. Should not have anything to do with the e-start other than that.

Thanks everyone! My service manual did not say anything about an oil deflector.

Situations were you have no instructions hit up an online catalog or parts breakdown, those will at least show you the correct assembly of the parts and what order they go in.
