Here's a shot of my pushrod, you can see both ends are not symetrical. Even the radius (or arc) seems different between them.

Here you can see the dimple/tit in the bottom of the right end piece. It's NOT slag, it's machined dead-center of the arc.

With one end of the pushrod being flat, I'm thinking that flat side goes towards the dimple (perhaps the flat is there to provide clearance to "miss" the dimple?).

Otherwise, the dimple would wear away immediately with the pressure of a few shifts. Regardless, this pushrod is definately different on each end...must be for a reason?

It is most certainly Different...I never seen one like that..
I would have probably just went with all 3 Pieces of the "up to '82" part # cause I don't know no better.

I might be over thinking this, but...

Looking at the end pieces side by side pic, the throwout bearing side's inside hole is smaller diameter than the clutch side. (both end piece's OD is the same). That would explain the difference in the "arcs".

If the red outline was the throwout bearing hole, (smaller inside diameter) then it seems to match the pushrod arc on the end "without" the flat. That would change my thinking about the flat needs to be on the dimple end piece.

Racepres, a friend and engine builder in the Evo forum knew the answer . The end with the flat faces the clutch basket; the other end faces the TO bearing side.

Odd that it looks so different.
Are you confident that it was a One year thing?
Just out of curiosity If it is Out, or ever out again I would measure the OAL of the 3 pieces...If it is a Different length [for some reason] from the typical, like My '82, I see why it needs to be that particular Pushrod...If it is the same length...I guess My Ignorance might have been excused...Maybe.
