Default Clutch Issue

OK Fella's
I have a clutch issue on my 87 FLHTC
I was pulling into my driveway and my clutch cable broke at the lever end. I got a new cable exact same as the one that broke. I stuck it on and while i was there I put on a new throwout bearing. I adjusted the clutch screw and then the cable and the dam thing will not adjust I must have adjusted it 10 time in last few days. I put in a clutch last summer it might have 3k on it so i know the clutch is good. what it is doing is when I fire up the bike let it warm up I pull in the clutch pop it into gear and it lurches forward a dies.I have done by the book and the easy way it just will not adjust write. the clutch was working fine when the cable broke. what do ya think it could be

Did you just replace the bearing or the whole rod? There are different lengths of rods you may have the wrong one. Compare it to the old one. If you just replaced the bearing, make sure the snap ring did not come off. When you adjust the clutch can you feel any pressure? If not recheck to make sure everything is still connected. Get back with replies and we will go deeper. Hope this helps.

If the new throwout bearing is on there OK, and the push rod end is correct...you might have to look "deeper"...Check the clutch hub nut to make sure it hasn't "backed off" any. I actually had one come completely loose on The Moonraker..(85 FXR). You also will need to make sure the studs on the Inner Clutch Hub have not started to break/crack. I've replaced 2 of these on mine, and the problem always seems to start with "can't get the clutch to adjust"...

If you have the required "slightly loose" clutch lever, that is, you pull it and can measure something like 1/8" or 1/4" before it starts to push against the TOB, whatever the book gives as a spec, and when you pull it in all the way your clutch is not disengaging, then you got something wrong in there somewhere. I'd pull the derby cover and watch the clutch action as I pulled the lever. If you pull the lever and the clutch doesn't start to disengage, you have some slop in the system somewhere. Cable? Could be stretching or maybe be loose in the sleeve or something else. New TOB? Clutch hub issue like guido sez? Somewhere you got slack. Next, I'd put my original TOB and rod in there and try it.

Question

Well I think I found the problem
I pulled the right tranny cover off pulled out the TOB and shaft then I went to the clutch side and turned the screw in to push the long rode out and it stopped I could not turn the screw no more so I took out the adjuster screw and took a small shafted screw driver and hit it with my hand and force out the long shaft out it came out but there was still a piece of a rod in there so I took the long rod to the clutch side and popped it with my hand again and piece of the adjuster screw came flying out see pic so it looks like I could not adjust the clutch screw all the way it needed because of the piece that was broke. also I measured the long shaft and it is 11.250 should it be at 11.500.
