I love the design and look of the shovelhead engine. I currently have the fat bob set on my 84 FXSB and hate how it covers the top of the rocker boxes up. I am looking for ideas for how to mount a sportster style tank. I don't really want to cut the factory tank brackets off of the top of the fame in case I want to put the larger tanks back on. Has anyone figured out a way to mount some of the aftermarket "king" size sportster style tanks to a big twin frame?
Thanks!
Thanks!
The FX/E tanks were designed to fit (with some rubbers accessories pieces) right over the tank mounts. Frames in '75 were identical for both FX and FLH models. I know that at some point they changed (maybe 78?) but I would have th research to figure out what those changes entailed.
So, if it worked and you can find one, it would change the profile but retain the original castings.

Back when they were plentiful and cheap you have no idea, stock intact shovels while not rare are not that common anymore. Bikes a beater neglected rat oh well, a not so common model like his, please no.
Besides any peanut tank will need tabs mods or additions and the stock frame tabs make good mounting points already.
