Default 1980 FXWG Where can you buy points/condensers?

Hi folks,

Where can you buy points/condensers for a 1980 FXWG? Or is Electronic ignition the way to go now? What are the better electronic ignition parts to use?

62 chev 6 cylinder points and condenser work and you should be able to get them at any auto parts store.

This is what I get when I am up late at night trying to read up on HD ignition parts. I now realize that HD introduced electronic ignition in 1978. I was wondering why the J&P Catalog on points and condensers years range ended in 1978. DUUUUH!!!! Sleep and coffee does wonders.

The 1980 FXWG came from the factory with electronic ignition. Or at least mine did. There's an electronics module on the lower front of the frame.

But if you want a newer version, you could do lots worse than look at the Ultima ignition systems. They do away with the external module as electronics are much smaller these days and all the electronics fit under the points cover.

If you do have points look for Blue Streak stuff,

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/381-281

And secondly the timing advance behind the points plate is probably junk, pick up one of these don't get a the cheap one they don't last a summer.

I check out the timing advance unit assembly. According to J&P this does not fit the 1980 FXWG. Not sure how accurate J&P web site is.

just put the points and condenser in, if it runs.....it runs. you can get new springs for your advance if you need them later. no need to buy the whole advance unit.

It does not fit on paper because not OEM... 1980 had electronic ignition
You can put points and condenser and advance unit to any shovel/evo

Beg to differ, biggest issue with advance units is the pivot shaft and the hole in the weight wear out allowing the weights to open wider letting them hit the inside of the nose cone bouncing the timing all over the place.
