Blacked Out Chrome....
#11
A little update.. This morning I decided to bake the paint on figuring it would help it to bond better to the chrome.... Well all it did was kinda melt off most of what I've accomplished and now has a clear gold look or Black Gold.... Debating on what to do, repaint or leave it the way it is.. I f I leave it, then to complete the rest of the bike i'd have to bake all the parts... Don't think I want to do that... Now a new question arises. Will this blacking out hold up to normal everyday crap? I only had the oven up to 300*. Not sure if it's the cheap Rattle can paint or the procedure or the fact that it's hard to make any paint stick to an unprimered surface.. Not a painter but I do like to experiment....
Black Gold.....
Texas Tea... Lol...

To get paint to stick to chrome you need to scuff it up, which is probably exactly what you don't want to do with your bike. Not sure how to accomplish what you are trying to do.
Not sure why you do not want to BAKE gas tanks, sounds like a safe enough proposition. Make sure you use her oven for that!!!?????!!!!???

Wife was mad when I did my own and really f'in mad when I did my buddies a few months later.
You might try using the smoked spray tint for tail light lenses from the auto parts store. It keeps some flexibility and may be less likely to chip off when the adhesion is iffy like on chrome

Another shot.....
So over the weekend I decided to Strip the clear and paint off the fender.. What a wicked sticky mess. It was actually easier to use a plastic scraper after coating it with a paint remover... Did manage to get it all cleaned up though without doing any damage to the chrome and painted this morning before work... Didn't get to gat any pics though cause I got injured at work today and sent home.. Don't think i'll be going back till Wednesday.... I'll get some pics to update then.....
