A question for you mechanic types...there is a skid plate under the motor. It protrudes under the frame a little. I can see where the PO placed his lift as the skid plate is bent (see pic) and paint is scratched off on the other side frame rail.

My question, if I place the lift in the same location, will it damage the motor or bottom end if the lift does not fully seat flat on the frame and the motor lays on the lift when it is raised.....the other platform is flat on the frame?

I wouldn't lift it by the skid plate or contact it at all while lifting. Both my 66 and 62 have wear marks in the cases from "reworked" skid plates followed by long term use. Both now have correctly shaped plates and I even shimmed the 62 so the plate would clear the case.

Just my thought too which is why I bought the scissors lift with the two adapters for the frame rails so it doesn't touch the skid plates....but I can barely get the scissors lift under the bike without it so may have to lift the bike further back then use the scissors when it is high enough to lift and stabilize the front.

Why not get a better jack? I know Im one to talk because I don't even have a bike specific jack but I don't have the complications you have either. I jack it up and put two 8X8 blocks of wood under it if I want both wheels off the ground at the same time.

$100.00 Harbor Freight lift that I bought in 1998. Every bike I own has been up and down on it, plus a dozen other bikes that have wandered thru my basement for work. The only one that does not sit well on the lift is the Flathead with the loop type frame with lower castings. But even then, I can balance her on there till we are in the air, then strap her down. The lift has a lock out when all the way up, I have had bikes live on that lift all winter long during major operations. Carry on.

Before I got the drive on lift from Harbor Freight, ( a cheaper version of John's) my jack wouldn't go under my rigid frame Pan. By rolling the bike up onto some scrap 3/4" plywood, it provided enough clearance to slide the jack underneath.

No room. Now if I could only convince my wife to let me park the bikes in the basement I would be set.

Yes no room. Now if I could only convince the wife to live in the basement I would be all set.
