Im trying to find the right air cleaner for this bike. Because its an early 66 Im not sure if it would take a "j slot" style or the center screw version. Thoughts?

According to Palmer's 2nd ed the J-slot was used on 1941-1955 models. The center screw cover was used from 1956-1973. But OHV models last used this cover in 1966. The bar and shield company logo was removed from the cover in 1966. However he does add that it is possible that early 1966 models had the bar and shield logo on the cover.

The air cleaner that came with my bike in a pile of parts is a center screw with no bar and shield. Any other ID markings on it I should look for?

Only other thing Palmer's mentions is that the air cleaner cover instruction used on 1960-1973 models reads:

SERVICE AIR CLEANER AT
LEAST EVERY 1000 MILES
ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS
IN RIDER HANDBOOK

NOTE: the instructions are stamped? into the cover as opposed to being rivited to the cover via a tag.

I'll include the pic of the bar and shield as well as the cover instruction when I pulll the cover.

I stand corrected and apologize for giving bad information. I was just over at my buddy's house and his '66 has the center screw air cleaner cover with the bar and shield. I was thinking of his Indian Sport Scout that has the J slot round air cleaner cover. I can post a picture of it next time I'm over there.
