Default Beginner Shovel Primary Fluid Question

I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere. I looked through with the search tool and couldn't find anything that answered my question. Also checked the service manual and couldn't find anything. I just got my first shovel and it has the stock oil lines to the primary. I drained and opened up the primary to clean the clutch plates and am putting it back together now. Even though it has the oiler coming into it, should I toss in some oil just to have some on the chain upon startup? Or do I just make sure to let it idle for a bit and let the oiler do its thing? Sorry if I'm not being clear, I'm trying my best to explain my question. Thanks in advance.

The bike has been sitting for years and the clutch didn't want to disengage. I thought it would be a good idea to take it apart and put it back together again.

Do not add any oil. The primary oiler will take care of it.

Once the clutch discs get oil soaked in the original discs we throw them away -

remove the ball and spring on the steels and stager the install

the discs we only use the red alto USA made and they are reasonable in price

the hub studs if the ditches are deep you need a new hub

when re installing the clutch the discs can not drag on the studs use a W drill bit to over drill the holes if they do - and a ram jet retainer should be used its 10 bucks - it hold the clutch drum from walking out when you pull the lever and that causes no neutral or very hard to find

Thank you very much johnjzjz. I'll be keeping all that in mind. I'm new to older bikes so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I appreciate the help.

I would quit running clutch dust through the motor. Reroute the oil lines and run 12 oz or so in the primary.

yeah not many people run that sump system it will hurt your oil pump by routing it from the primary, close that off and use type f transmission fluid for your clutch plates

Wise move, stock oiling system and shovel clutch assemblies do gunk up and drag over time. It was a pre riding season maint. thing for mine every spring before I went sealed primary then later on to belt drives

Make a suggestion while you are in there put in a Ramjet retainer, takes a lot of the stock shovel clutch stupid out. Keeping the hub from floating in & out and dragging at an idle. Make hitting neutral very easy when adjusted right.
