Hi evomojo, I've just finished doing the same with my '74 Shovel. Not sure what you're lookin' for but feel free to ask. BTW, I live in Ennis, just south of Dallas on 45. You can e-mail me direct at bernynray@hotmail.com if you rather.
Evomojo,
if i lived in kingman, arizona, i would open a wharehouse for scooter builders who are hip to the fact that one hell of a lotta' stuff from aircraft will fit the scooters. we're talking mil. spec hardware! so far and away above the grade 8 on both quality and strength. well, i don't live near kingman (damnit!) so i make do by gittin' on friendly terms with my friendly neighborhood local airport parts counter guy who was impressed to find out the goods he was selling were going on a shovel. when that doesn't work i go to Aircraft Spruce and Speciality online to buy what i want
OK, time to shorten sail and let the cat outa' the bag. Aircraft mechanics who ridehave known for years (decades really) that airplane hardware is the cats mewow cause its all SAE thread pattern, coarse or fine; it is in fact the hardware that holds our military jets, rockets, tanks, you name it, together.
IF, and admittedly its a big if, you can get access to a hanger (somehow legitimately) and plead your way into the tenyear box (which is the box or drawer thats collected, for the last ten years, all the spare nuts and bolts and washers and fittings and spacers and snaprings and........ well, you get the idea) and be ready to offer a case of brews in swap you will find it worth your while cause nutin' fits so damn fine
my 66 shov was drenched in mil. spec. current one has less though.
one piece of advise that won't cost you a dime to follow is this: If you are thinking on using stainless steel hardware, nuts bolts, washers etc., consider this; it is as much as the life of you bike is worth that you DO NOT use ANY stainless from China,it is absolute crap and will gall and lock up, strip, round off, etc..
Try this, order some hi-temp nuts for to hold on your exhaust system from Aircraft Spruce and Speciality and they will send you a catalog that will go a long way to helping. Hint, order a couple'a diferent sizes for the muff brkts n clamps n stuff.
Sorry for the long windedness, intro to aircraft hardware is a caution but well worth it
any more info you are pleased to ask for should come with fewer words outa' me
hope this helps.
