Why screw up a perfectly good motor. Sorry, but I never was a fan. Form over function, that sort of thing.

Hi all, I have not rode any or owned one. But i have seen a few. Looks like a hardtail with a better ride. I meet a guy that made a softtail frame for a sportster. It looked good.

A lot of custom builders use them but not so much with Shovels, they usually go with an Evo clone, you don't see many Joe Blow's going that route. Most home builders will go hardtail if they're starting over or swing arrm for the traditional look, all depends on what you want.

The reason that you don't see Shovelhead motors in softail frames is because to a lot of us it is degrading to the motor.
I'm sorry if I offend any softail owners, to each his own, but I saw 1984 as the rise of Harley-Davidson and the fall of the true American biker. Now you can buy your way into the life instead if working your way into it.

I may be just a pup. But I definately agree with you relic. I spent my childhood on the back of a '69. I do still appreciate the new HD bikes. But I still remember the days as a kid. The only guys cruisin around town were BIKERS. Now it seems you drop $15k, and buy yourself a leather jacket. And -poof- instant "biker". I remember, and miss, the good ol' days. And i hope one day this RUB "biker" trend will fade away.

Good post brother.

While I agree with it being wrong to put a shovel in a softail WTF is wrong w/a softail? Long rides on a rigid suck or I'm a pu$$y whatever.

lundee, what we are referring to is the harley softail frame. not a frame with moveable suspension. harley came out with the hidden shock soft tail in 84. my shovel, as well as many others were made with shocks. i strutted my bike because i wanted to be as low as possible. but i also think it handles better in turns and hard accel. i dont get the suck down or bounce in turns. and if you notice in relics attachments above, his bike has shocks. no ones crappin on you bro.
