59-66 front hub on my Shovel, can I update the wheel bearings?

Good information! Thanks..
Can I just get sliders like http://www.jpcycles.com/product/2300220 and put them on 66 tubes, then set up a 73 style wheel and a PM brake?
Easy as that??

Getting any kind of aftermarket brake to work on the early front end isn't as easy as that , there's always something tweaky with shims or spacers to deal with and you haven't gained a thing by staying with the old style tubes and legs which are very tired and worn by now believe me . Some of the GMA brake kits required you to cut off the old tab's on the sliders to work , you don't find this out till you,ve spent the money . By the time your done buying all that stuff your in more than new frontend would have cost and it's still jury rigged . Years ago when parts weren't as common as today you had to do what your wanting to , thing is you have many more and cheaper options now at hand and the end product is much more reliable and better riding than the older FL fronts ever thought of being .
Check the the brake setup in the picture , that was an old drum leg set I did with a GMA brake years ago and you have to upgrade to a 73 or newer wheel to take the disk and you still end up with 40 yr old tech that's works marginally . For what that all cost then you can almost if not get a complete late model front end wheel and all which rides and handle MUCH better no diving or banging like a lumber truck .

Packrat,
Is there no one around your area that can guide you to your parts fit problem? I have read what has been posted here and mostly it is right. I think you would be better off if you could find someone close to you who can direct you as to the way to go. My post about slider change was not a complete answer and as another post said your wheel/brake set-up is OK, too. And the fact that there are many ways to approch your problem, just handing out $$'s can cost you more $$'s if the parts don't match.
Personally, I would rebuild the 'star' hub and recondition the brake, but only if the the system you have is an original set-up and not a collection of parts that were assembled to get the bike 'sold'. There are a lot of things I've seen in my many years riding that is unbelieveable. 'Back in the day', people would ride death traps and get away with it. You don't want to be riding one of those things, so I advise you to do more research than on this site. Find someone with the knowledge that can you can sit and talk with and can see what you really have on your bike.
Remember this, no matter how fast or far your bike can go, you NEED good brakes!!!!

Panz you build some clean bikes man very nice black & whites . I always avoided the fender tab mounted brakes systems mostly because all the legs had the tabs cut off I came across and the small piston & pads in most of them , I had to fab up & weld them back on the Black & Red bike . How well did those work out for you and what issues with fenders did you hit ? This is for personal FYI PM me if you want .
