Default Shovel Pipes

Bought a 1980 FLH Classic 2 weeks ago. I love it, GREAT bike! It is in need of a different set of slip-ons. It currently has a set of real quite small boloney pipes. I'd want them longer and with a "good" sound.Nice deep but not earth quakeing. What would you recommend.
Thanks.

By "quite small", do you mean 1-3/4" diameter? If so, keep 'em. They are the perfect diameter, and larger pipes will actually flow less and cause the bike to run worse.

Thanks for the input. I'm getting straight thru Santee fishtails and baffels if I need them.
What pipes are you running? They look sharp in your pic. Are they Straight thru?

They were stock head pipes with the crossover blocked with a freeze plug brazed in the opening, then the rear head pipe cut in two and the restrictor cut out, and pipe welded back together. The fishtail is straight thru. Setting it up as a 2-into-1 made it sound quite unique.

Unique idea. When the new pipes arrive I'll take a close look and maybe proceed in that direction. I think the cross over pipe maybe cracked, and your set up maybe the answer. Thank you.
Right now I'm working on finding out where an air leak. I get small back fires on idle 'till it warms up. I'm consentrating on the intake O-rings. Replaced the O-ring set-up with wider hose like seals and stock clamps. That improved the situation a lot but still not good enough. I've also been messing with the idle valve. It has a stock Keihn(sp) carb. bought a can ofstartrig fluid to see whats happening.
Would have any other suggestions?
Thanks.

poco, I thought you needed some back pressure in order to get the proper overall performance out of the motor. I used Paugcho straight 1 3/4 inch pipes on my chopped pan and used 10 inch steel baffles. Sounds very good, no backfire, no noticeable loss of performance
