Default Passing Lamp Bulbs

Well all I could find is threads a few years old on this and I am thinking there are updates to the bulbs.

What are you guys running for your passing lamp bulbs?
Make and model number would be awesome!

My Situation...2011 FLHR

I am looking at running Silverstar Ultras H9 in both high and low beam, low beam runs with high beam. Matching that with Silverstar 893s 37.5W in the passing lamps running 100% of time. Wondering if that will put me at max. wattage

Also looking at PIAA X-Tream White Plus H9 in both and they seem to only have 27w 881s.

Now the big reason I ask is because there are multiple 8xx bulbs out there that are 37.5w (as posted by other forum members) as well as folks who have installed 36w and 35w bulbs but I haven't found those....

So thought I would ask what your using and if you think I will over run my system running 2-H9s and higher watt passing lamps all at the same time.

Sylvania's website is down.

Any advice on H9 bulbs is also appreciated. Already looked at Hella, PIAA, Sylvania, and a couple others.

No LED or HID at this time.

Again...Thank all of you for your patience and time!!

Sno

I am away from home, headed for NW to get away from the heat..

I did a chart for myself some years ago with the bulb numbers, watts, lumens and service life

you will find a huge difference in service life between the 27 and 37 watt bulbs- stock with sylvania, osram, philips

to calculate the load use ohms law where:
watts / 12 volts = amps
so 2 x 60w bulbs is 10 amps right there, spots will add 6.25, add a little more for resistance in the wiring and switches...so 17 or 18 amps.

watts and lumens are not the same, and factor in color temp..

I am using H9 silverstar in low beam ( nip the plastic tab) and the piaa extreme in my high beam.

I am still running the 27 w 881's that came on the bike in 2009...I really only using my spots at night in rural areas ( elk)

You can use 896 or 898 bulbs, they are the 37.5 equivalent bulbs. You can also use an 894, but hey don't have the black tip annd I don't know if they wil change the beam pattern and cause glare.you can get these in yellow or dichroic. Keep a spare or two as they are rated 300 hrs.

This is great info..thanks guys. Thanks for the math in it too Mike. I can call it out. I HATE electrical problems so I'm gonna stick on the safe side. I was running back over Snoqualmie Pass here in Washington last weekend about midnight and there were two elk on the right white line. I HATE snoqualmie pass at night but it's a quick run home from the east.
