Default Question about Sylvania bulbs

I read some posts about the Sylvania silverstars bulbs. I understand you can buy these at Auto Zone. Does any body have the part # for the headlamp and the passing lamps. I want more of a whiter look in stead of the yellow look. But I dont want to strain the elecrical system . Or run to hot of a bulb. I had piaa,s in my car that worked out great. I am not sure if they make them for the Harley. All imput greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bob.

Silverstars are cheaper and a great bulb compared to overpriced PIAA's

SOMETIMES THESE WORK AND SOMETIMES THEY DONT. THEY ALMOST ALWAYS FAIL EARLY SINCE THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR CARS AND NOT UP TO THE VIBRATION OF A HARLEY. YOU CANNOT GET THE ZENON FOR PASSING LAMPS BECAUSE OF THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE LIGHTS WOULD MAKE THEM TO BRIGHT FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC. YOU CAN GET A ZENON BULB FROM HARLEY FOR ABOUT $20.00 WHICH WORKS GREAT. I USE IT AND LIKE IT. I8F YOU MUST HAVE BRIGHTER PASSING LAMPS YOU COULD OPT FOR THE HARLEY CLEARS WHICH COME STANDARD ON THE 05 BIKES.

9003 is the replacement bulb number type and come in several different watts. The stock is a 65/55 watt halogen, made in China.

I use a PIAA 9003 80/100 watt in my bike along with the Harley 35 watt halogen clear driving lamps. What a difference. I have my driving lights wired to stay on on both low and high beam, and no it does not overload the charging system or get hot enough to overheat the bike lense housing(s) and the bulb has never failed because of vibration.

I have used the same 9003 80/100 bulb in my last four bikes. This same "PIAA German" bulb has lasted over 12 years, from bike to bike.

With the lights properly adjusted no one flashes you on the road and they really light up the night.

I'd go with PIAA. I've got PIAA in my Dual Beam on my 05 Ultra and it made a great difference.

Based on yesterdays post, I'm going to upgrade to HID.

I've never read a negative on the PIAA except cost. Shop the internet and you'll find a deal. If you do, make sure you buy the PIAA Xtreme White.

You should be able to get them at your HD dealer but they'll want way too much.

Default RE: Question about Sylvania bulbs

When I changed the bulb in mine from the stock to the Sylvinia Silver Stars, I just went to an auto parts place and bought a double package of automobile "H-4" silverstars! They don't come in a single package. So I shared the other with a friend of mine. Before changing to the HID the silverstar was a big improvement. It will not damage the wiring since its street legal and has the same wattage as the stock H-D halogen bulb. Only when you go over the stock wattage ratings you can run in to trouble in two areas. One the wiring is not large enought to haul the current required for higher wattage of other then stock ratings. Two the heat expended from the higher operational wattage can cause a problem with the headlamp enclosure! I have read that a lot of folks have had wiring problems with higher wattage bulbs and converted over to a relay setup, and then heard that others never had any problem. I would suspect that the older bikes would have less capable wiring from age and or that its just not able to carry the current period that it maybe thiner wiring to start with? Don't have enough info to determine either.

But the SilverStars' are safe to run with out any problem in either area, just cost about $30 some bucks for two. If you don't know anyone that could use another one, save it as a spare. Just don't use your bare hands to touch the glass of any of the bulbs. The finger oils will cause hot spots and they will burn out faster. Use clean rag and a glove to handle them.

Well I think I am going to go with the piaa,s. I had them in my cars and trucks for years. And really liked them. Yes they are expensive. I was on piaa,s web site. They have bulbs for the Harley. They are called anti vibration. The h4 and the pair of h3,s for the passing lamps are on there as well. Same wattage as stock.I went through pages on the website looking for a deal. Did not see any. This seems to be a rare bulb. Automotive bulbs are some what discounted. Plenty on e bay. By the prices I wonder if they are controlled by Harley. LOL. If any one finds any discounts please let me know. Thanks again for all the help. Bob.

If you go to the Sylvania web site and read up on the silverstar bulbs, they will tell you that they are good for only about one year. I had them in my car and they lasted just about a year. One day the one went out and the very next day the other one went out. Sylvania does not tell you this on the package, nor do they tell you that they have NO WARRENTY! I would not recommend them to anyone.[:@]
