I forgot that Tuesday is my regular day off, so I have an unbelievably rare four-day weekend, yay!
Things have been apart a bit the last week or so, but I'm going to try to get it all back together this weekend. I took off my dented tank last week, which was pretty simple. I rode it until I needed to engage reserve, then I ran it with the petcock closed until it stalled. I dropped the carb end of the fuel line in a gas can and flipped the petcock back to reserve until it ran dry. I used these handy locking hose pliers on the crossover line before cutting it, and I basically didn't drip any fuel at all.
Before installing the new tank, everything in there will be cleaned up, and these recently-arrived goodies will be used: Fresh Pingel Petcock (black chrome), new Mikuni choke cable, new Barnett throttle and idle cables, a G2 1/4 turn throttle tube, and a quick-disconnect (double dry break) valve for the crossover line.
While the tank was off, I also installed a Custom Cycle Engineering top stabilizer link, but I detailed that in another post.
Okay, back to work... Music is playing in the garage...
(Cvaria, my garage is a "Nicki Minaj-Free Zone... )
Well I made some progress, but I just wasn't in a "fast" mood today... This past month wiped me out at work! Slow, steady, a good cold beer, wide selection of rock & roll... Actually a very relaxing day! The carb is much happier after a good cleaning:
Cleaned the breather assembly completely and reinstalled it with the carb (and a fresh carb seal from Cometic):
The Mikuni choke cable seemed to be a little bit flawed in design, unless I'm missing something... The only think that keeps it properly seated in the carb is a little rubber boot. After opening and closing it a few times it popped out... I took everything apart again and secured the boot with two small zip ties. It seems fine now!
I started disassembling by old tank. I have amassed duplicates of pretty much every piece (console, gauge, cap, bezel, etc.), but some of the items on my old tank are in nicer shape than my stash...
So, that's what happened today. Basically, the carb is back on with all new cables and the quick turn throttle tube. Hopefully I'll finish everything up tomorrow!
Is that alligator on those shoes? Thats serious footwear for bike work. VW must be the life, lol
Hahahahaha! They aren't alligator, they're $35 Pumas! I like the idea of wearing alligator in the garage, though... That will definitely happen, post-lottery!

...Audi, actually... But you're close!
I was in shock... this man is running around the garage in gator!
The Screamin' Eagle cover on that Mikuni is pretty cool. I didn't know they made those. And, yeah, that enrichener cable is less than ideal. Mine is the same.
