I am thinking about changing front and rear brake rotors on my 89 softail .. Would like some input on best brand to use .. I will be using new pads and also new fluid in the system. but just wandering where to get the rotors Thanks for any input !!!
Do what ya want.....MANY brands and types out there.............some require certain type pads.......do your homework and pick what ya like.......RUSSELL makes em.........check out any cycle website.......ebay......amazon........MILLIONS to choose from......
Be prepared to wrestle with the bolts that attach the rear rotor to the wheel. I just did this on my 95 FLHT and it was kind of a nightmare. Not sure about the setup on your bike, but do a little research so you're ready. I had to use heat and a heavy duty impact gun to free up the red loctite. I went through a few T45 torx sockets too, so make sure you use a good one, if that's the type of bolts you have.
Would like to thank you guys for your input !!!!Bike is an 89 so sorta think it might be time to change the rotors ...Not really sure about ebay but will have a look .. I will check the russel out too!!!!!
Stick weld a nut with an ID that is almost as large as the rotor bolt. Weld the inside where the thread is. Use an impact gun to remove. No lock-tite any longer. Always use new rotor bolts anyhow.
It is all you need to do. I am in the process to use Touring Brembos and put them on my 320's. Doing that work now. Your choice of either real Brembos and HD Dresser Brembos on my 320mm rotors, naturally works on Dressers also. These are real Brembos & about $50 more per side than HD Dresser Brembos. Same rotors for all applications including the newest Spoked Mount.
