My first dyna was an FXDB and without knowing much about performance or taking it into consideration, I wanted LOUD more than anything. With short shots, you'll get that and I do mean they are LOUD. Take the baffles out and you might wind up deaf after a long ride. In terms of performance, it's already been said. They offer nothing in that category.
On a bigger bike like a dyna , no. They are very raspy with the 103 engine, they look out of place and too short on a larger frame , and the loss of performance is the final straw.
that's why I went with the big shots , vance and hines.
I also have been interested in the Big Shots... how do you like them so far? how's the sound? In my opinion they look the coolest in terms of appearance. How are they on performance and sound? I am running V&H slash down slip on's right now. Pretty expensive as slip ons go, and they're not quite as loud as I'd hoped.

not to threadjack or anything.
when I was looking for an exhaust for my lrs I talked with the parts manager at the local HD dealer. I was originally looking at Vance and Hines products cause I liked their appearance but I was told most of their products were horrible for performance. The manager told me he wouldn't put them on his bike even if they were given to him. I seem to hear a lot of negative things about v&h. I'm told their 2-1 is a little better but still doesn't compare to the fatcat, road rage, thunderheader, etc.
now that I'm aware of this, it seems like a lot of the dyno sheets I see with v&h exhausts have lower numbers than bikes with similar mods that have better exhaust systems on them.
I'm not trying to slam v&h because a lot of the bikes I've seen em on look and sound really good. It's just the performance aspect that ruins it for me.
My bike had them installed when I bought it and I can attest that they do not sound great. They are loud af and sound decent at low RPM but the higher the revs go the worse they sound. They don't rumble like I'd like them to. New exhaust is on my list of changes I would like to make.
Regardless of the brand or quality, drag pipes are drag pipes and they wont give you the best performance in real world riding.
There are much better choices you could make but l'm pretty biased towards standard headers and S&S slip ons when it comes to value for money.
I'm glad I stumbled on this thread; I dig the looks but had no idea about the negative side that is mentioned repeatedly~
I just acquired my first HD, and I'm an FNG around here for now, but my 16' FXDF came with the Cobra Speedster Slashdowns I think they're called. Sound good, loud but not excessively, run smooth along the highway and low speeds, and the look is good and growing on me too. Besides that they're brand new and already there, so until I get restless and can't decide to spend money on something else they'll stay right where they're at
I honestly really like the look (of course if I wouldn't have them on there) and haven't experienced any lack in what I consider to be power and don't have any decel popping.
I might just be one of the lucky few!
Or I'm having WAY to much fun riding to know
Lol
