Looking for some feedback on vh short shots for my 2001 Fxdxt - I am not really a thunderheader guy and the price and look of the short shots are right - thoughts?
I had them shortly on my 48, not on the Dyna. looks wise obviously they are good. When you say you are not a thunderheader guy, is it because of looks or the sound or both?
I got the Bassani RR. Not installed yet. Will have a review later.
short shots are loud, I have seen some complains about them not performing at cruise speeds though
I had python throwbacks prior to my current pipe. They are made by V&H and similar to the short shots. Couple of things:
They are extremely loud and right below your ears. That may seem cool at first but gets old very fast. Annoying to others and no respite for yourself even when on the highway. And yes I did try options such as quiet baffles and TTS's.
Performance is **** poor... basically if your goal is both looks and performance you'll only get the looks (if you like them). Short shots barely give any performance boost from stock. Again, if you don't plan on any engine upgrades in the future then no big deal, but if you think you may be adding more performance features to your engine in the future don't bother with short dials. Best performance willngenerally be with a quality 2:1 with a good collector.
Dime a dozen, while I like the short shots, there's a reason why they're sold cheap and in mass quantities. You see them everywhere.
Short shots look good but that's about it. They sound decent but they're horrible for performance. My previous Dyna had Python slip ons and they sounded awesome but didn't do anything for performance. Whichever way you go, read as much as you can. Research is the most important part, otherwise you'll be spending the money again.
Short shots were on my bike when I bought it. I love the look. They aren't so loud that they bother me. I am sure there are better performing, but my bike runs good now that I have an FP3 on it. I'll probably end up keeping the short shots.
On a bigger bike like a dyna , no. They are very raspy with the 103 engine, they look out of place and too short on a larger frame , and the loss of performance is the final straw.
that's why I went with the big shots , vance and hines.
