Sounds like somebody's taking their time with the key, if a shipped bike beat it there. Have fun when it gets there.

Just a small update as I still don't have the key (coming from Florida where they have other problems to worry about!)

After the internal tank line snapped in my fingers, I suspected the quick disconnect would also have some issues. Good thing I checked because damn, everything is bad. I think the fuel tank was filled with Satan's ****.

I do have a question before I bother trying to rebuild the quick disconnect: since the internal fuel line broke, and it is sold with the QD as one part (part #62228-03), do I need to buy the whole new part or can I just get a separate fuel line and reattach it to the old QD?

Expected the o-rings in the disconnect to need replacing, but this was something else. They were stuck in there like you wouldn't believe.

My favorite solution!

Hard to match up sizes when this is all you're left with. Good thing for forums!

Just buy new parts. By the looks of the condition I would get a new pump/regulator/and filter and new fittings

Following along! Maybe already posted, but you can get parts diagrams here:

Finally a real update, but it is not a good one. Got the key and got the tank off. It's bad in there... Real bad. I'm thinking anything that touches the fuel in the tank has got to go and will need to be replaced. I'm going to scrape out what I can and then try some BBs for the chunky stuff and finally some muriatic acid. I'll let the pictures tell the tale:

First thing I see when I open the gas cap. I can tell this is gonna be bad.

Damn, even the canopy bolts are bad. Not a good sign.

First glimpse into the tank. For one brief second I got excited as this was just surface rust and not really a big deal.

Oh awesome, the entire pump is covered in sludge. Let's take a closer look.

Close-up of the pump. Isn't she beautiful?

Here's some shots inside the tank:

Oh, so the tank WAS filled with Satan's ****. Glad that's confirmed. Also, it looks like the tank had been coated with something, which I guess is good. The rust probably would have gotten much farther.

Fuel level float. Covered in more crap.
As she sits currently.

Let this be a lesson to anyone who reads this now or in the future: drain your tanks for prolonged storage! Particularly if you live in high humidity climates.

Where can you buy elbow grease again?

I believe I would consider buying good used replacement parts and chucking that stuff...use new parts where appropriate.

I would make darn sure you oil the cylinders before you turn it over. Even then I would crank it back and forth using the rear wheel until you feel it rolling over freely

This discovery just ramped up the project several notches.
