Going to see a few friends in the Mountain City, Tenn area and was wondering if anyone had some info on a few subjects (places to stay/see/ride/eat at/so on). I hope the weather will hold up. I was told the leaves are already turning??? Its just the two of us so we are open everything the area has to offer.

Leave Mountain City and head North on US 421 to Shady Valley, Tn. This 12 mile run is called The Snake. Great ride. Take right on 133 at the Shady Valley Store & ride about 9 miles to Backbone Rock. You can't miss it. You're in some great riding areas. Another great ride...Ride south on US 421 to Trade, Tn. Pick up 88 to West Jefferson. Stop in at Boondocks Brewing & Tap Room.

421 south to 321 to Elizabethton TN is a pretty ride. Johnson City has some pretty good eats. 421 North towards Bristol is a great ride from Mountain City. If you like caverns the ones in Bristol ( Bristol Caverns) are pretty good. Take 26 north it will change to state hwy 23. North of Gate City in VA is a natural tunnel. It is about 500 feet down. It's a state park and you can take a chair lift down and back up or hike it. There is a train that runs through it. Blowing Rock is not far from there. Google the area. There is litteral a half million things in the area. Blue Ridge Pkwy.
A year or so ago. My wife googled waterfalls in western NC. There are several in the area. None of them are marked. But you can find them with some internet savy. The locations are generally just pull off area. Then you have to hunt a trail and hike to them. We spent a day doing it and found like 8 or 9 of them. They were all in the Boone to Mountain City area.
