Default raleigh nc

I need to meet some friends on fri morning before mb bike week to ride down. Problem is they are coming from richmond area to pick up 701 off of 95. I am coming from southwest va. It takes me 1 hour 45 minutes to get to danville or 2 hours to south boston va. I can get into nc anywhere off of 58. Looking for shortcuts to 701 or 421 to 701. Should I avoid 40 around raleigh in the morning? Any help thanks

40 is gonna be your most direct / fastest route. Raleigh wont be too bad on the beltline if ya dont mind rollin along fast with traffic. If ya want a scenic route take 220 south out of Martinsville to Ridgeway and then 87 south all the way to Sanford NC and then 421 south to Dunn, then 95 north for a couple miles and then onto 40 south to Newton Grove and youre in the 701 area. Hope this helps.

Why not take Hwy 29 out of Danville south to Greensboro and pick up U S 421 S thru Sanford and Lillington and Dunn then hit 701 outside of Clinton.....Good roads 421 is 4 lane alot of the way but the only big city you have to go through is G'boro NC ......Keep youe eyes out for the 421 S exit in G'boro becaues it is not well marked and comes up on you fast....Ride Safe!

I take NC-86 TO Danville from Raleigh... pleasant 1.5 hours.... nice road, then you can jump on I-40 to Newton Grove and meet your friends.

Check out, taking 86 to Hillsbrough, US-70 east to I-85 to NC-147 to I-40 might cut a mile or two off..... that's the route we use going north....

Raleigh traffic is not too bad, everybody drives about 220 MPH over the speed limit. Just try and keep up.
