Trading my Ultra Limited Low for a Softail, which one?
Tossing in my 2 cents worth:
I know nothing about about the FatBoy, but I do own a '16 Heritage.
I love this bike. I bought it used (300 miles!) and it already had a Stage 1. I can tell you that with that Stage 1 upgrade, your passing concern is minimal. However, everything you've read about "lean angle" on this bike is true. While the floorboards are great, it is the least best lean in the HD lineup from everything I've read. If you corner in 3rd gear, you're gonna scrape. Fortunately, after 4 months with this bike, I've gotten used to it and I don't crap myself every time I hear it.
I am *not* a hotrodder, I don't do wheelies, I don't jack around on the road. I ride the bike. It's a cruiser...I cruise. I do a lot of 2-up with the wife, but I also ride it to work each day, solo. I invested in a detachable kit for the sissy bar / luggage rack and love the look when that part is OFF the bike.
I love this bike. I hope to keep it for a very long time, even if it is my first selection. I'll admit, I bought it based on its look (and "Heritage" is an apt name), didn't even test ride it. I'm 45 but didn't even have my license or had taken the class when I bought it. Very glad I didn't, I might have been scared of the weight. When I walk it out of the gate each morning, that thing is heavy! I've gotten quite used to it now, and other than walking it I don't even notice the weight. I've put over 7500 miles on it in just these past four months. Every day I get up, I can't wait to ride to work. I can't wait to ride to lunch. And 5:00 means not only is it time to go home, but it's time to ride again! (Even if my commute is only 15 minutes!)

Three weeks ago traded my 2013 FLTRX in on a 2018 heritage classic special 114 motor. I am completely happy with this bike. It will take the curves as well as the touring bikes and the 114 motor has got stronger and stronger as it has broke in. And I ordered the detachable tour pak , slap it on when you got ol lady with you take it off when you don't. H-D made a sport touring bike of this bike and I love it.

Why not get quick detach kits for the bags and tour pack, get a solo seat, take off the hard lowers, and get a big bore kit put in? more power, still have the storage when you want it, take it all off to lighten the bike for solo rips, still have cruise & stereo & wind protection.

mike either bike would do for me. be sure and buy it at falcon fury Harley in conyers ga. if you buy it any where else you paid too much. they usually go 3000-4000 off msrp. if they don't just sit on it they will return your call. don't tell yourself you have to have it today. just be patient good luck
I had this same problem a few months back. Stuck between a break out and a heritage. I like having a shield and bags for the same reason you do, even just going to the gym requires carrying something. I went with the heritage because I wanted a bike that I could use right off the show room floor, the breakout would sit mostly for awhile until i saved up money to make it a daily driver. Pricing was different for the 17 models so it made sense from a financial stand point to go with the heritage.
I'll be honest, I don't love how my heritage looks. I'm not a leather guy, and I don't like tassels and studs and all the chrome. But it has been extremely satisfying to slowly change out pieces as i can afford them. She will be perfect one day.
Oh and the 240 rear tire is a major pain. You might as well add "rear tire" to your 5k service list
