I failed to backup my claim for HD recommending to pull the timing cover, for inspection of hydraulic cam chain tensioner shoes at 50k. Could have sworn I ran acrossed that in a service manual. Checked back to even a 07 TC manual and no mention of this anywhere.

I spoke to a service rep from a local dealer and he confirms it. HD has not even in a service bulletin made any such recommendation.

Probably an excellent idea to check 'em at 50K, whether it's in the manual or not.

i checked my chain tensioners at 55,000 mi. oh 14 limited. all i had was a gasket because i expected them to be fine. they were about half gone. the grooves were .019 deep at entry and exit points and '016 deep in the center. friction material looked just like earlier spring loaded ones. i didn't have replacement shoes on hand so i put it back together. i will go back in next winter(about 75,000mi). based on what i saw, if you have the newer hydraulic units i would recomend waiting till about 70,000 and replace them. maybe by that time lifters, inner brgs if needed. my 2 cents worth. forgot to mention thickness of tensioner friction material was '042 new.

I've got 99,000 on my 14 FLHTK and so far the only thing done to the engine was replacing a leaking rocker box gasket. The water pump was replaced at 82,000. The primary has never been opened except to remove the derby cover for scheduled service. The bike is completely stock down to the air filter and exhaust. I do the scheduled oil changes and use SYN3 for the engine and Formula+ in the primary & Trans.
I second jpooch00 .... PM MilesOfTexas .... he's well over 100,000 miles

The wear comes from multi-link chains... if you have standard chains you will get 2 grooves but the wear will then slow down considerably.
