Default 2001 Road King Question

Looking at buying a 2001 Road King decommissioned from the Boston PD (allegedly). The seller is telling me the transmission is a 4 speed but I am having trouble finding any information on a 4 speed Road King from 2001. He is telling me it is factory. The bike is a little banged up from a wreck (his reason for selling) so I can't put it on the road to do the obvious test.

Any information floating around on a 4 speed Road King?

Thanks,

Slaw

I owned a 2001 Road King and it had a five speed tranny. It wasn't a police model though.

4 speeds died in the early 80's.......from my limited knowledge.

There has never been a 4 speed Road King from the factory, the person you are dealing with is either dishonest or doesn`t know what he is selling, either way, be wary.

The Road King model came out in `94, long after the last 4 speed transmission was made.

I guess you are looking at a really inexpensive bike...
A 2001 Road King that was a police model... has wreck damage and is not road worthy should not have a line of people wanting to purchase it.
Think about it...how many people are in line to purchase a bike they can not see run?
Unless the bike has minimal wear, low miles and is easily fixed then it reads like a problem.
Almost any bike is fixable but how much do you want to put into it to make it run?
Rather easy to spend $2,000 on parts and free DIY labor when a bike has a simple wreck with NO frame damage.
A 2001 Road King has 5 speeds...if the owner/rider does not know that information then all other information provided is worthless.

That's what I am thinking and the seller is either full of **** or trying to get one over on you. Look elsewhere.
