Default So the OL isnt taking to the Fat Boy...

Picked up the '99 Fatty for the wife, but she's not adjusting to riding a carbed bike very well. Probably going to have to let her go. The bike, I mean. Getting rid of the wife would *cost* money!

Any ideas on value? There's only a tiny number of similar year and mileage bikes on Cycletrader, like three I think?

It's a '99 Softail Fat Boy in Aztec Orange and Silver, with 11,500 miles on it. Engine is bone stock unmolested, with the timing cover still riveted on. She's in really solid shape, the only nick in the paint is under the passenger seat. Has a crash bar and driving lights installed. Original exhaust can be included. Located in central Florida.

I'm thinking asking $6500, with a bit of flex in there.

Probably sell it and her Sporty and get her a newer Fatty.

What exactly would fuel injection provide that a carburetor doesn't that she doesn't like?

The reason I ask is a fuel injected fat boy is likely not to be to her liking as well. It could be that being a fat boy or being a Softail is what the real issue is. It is important to figure this out prior to purchasing another bike. Or it could be that the solution is to modify the current bike to address whatever it is that's a problem.

What was she riding before?

The bike looks like it is in good shape. The market is down right now. Expect $3,500 to $5,500

I'm with prot. Other than starting the carb isn't noticeable when riding as in I don't hit the throttle and feel a difference. My dad's fxdc with a 96ci and fuel injection is slightly less responsive than the evos mikuni if anything, even he thinks so. I think the vibes of a evo softail might be the issue here or another fault with the bike.

Have you ridden the fatboy at all? Is the carb hiccuping mabye?

The last few EVO fatboys that sold on ebay were in the $3500-4000 range.

Yeah the bike market is still very soft I wouldn't expect much for that bike.

Have you asked your wife what she doesn't like about the bike?

If it is the vibrations then not much can be done but most consider it a real Harley and the last of the Milwaukee vibrator.

Agree with our members, I have both EFI and a carb with the carb being a Evo, wouldn't know the difference in runnability. The CV carb on the Fatboy is about as proven as it gets in smoothness when tuned right.

By the way, that is a good lookin bike, I would try and get it tuned to perfection and put the wife back on it, got a feeling it needs some carb adjustments. Put some fuel to it will make the choke less needed and run smoother. You will only be out $20-$30 dollars and Evo section will have your back on doing it yourself.

These days you’ll be lucky to get 3000.00 for it the market is flooded with use bikes. Maybe 3500 on a trade in good luck.

That would be a fun bike to toss a V111 into.

I must live in a high priced area. Used bike prices have come down but in southeren Wisconsin that bike would have probably a 7-8k asking price on it. I know asking and getting are very different things, but i cant find a fat boy for sale for less that 6k within 100 miles of me.

Craigslist here is filled with older bikes with 7-8k asking price...go back 6 months or 12 months later and all those bikes are still for sale.

No matter what anyone says...ebay has done a lot to eliminate "area" pricing...and looking at ebay sold listings is a good way judge pricing. NADA is completely out of touch with reality on older bike prices.
