Default Considering a road or street glide

After the most recent long trip on my breakout, I'm shelving her for long rides. Looking into bagger options. My wife is suggesting the ultras. But I don't care for the colors (i like the Orange limited). I already own a king tour pak and hard bags from a 14 ultra. I'm sure I know the answer, but sanity check me... Am I better off getting the limited and adding the lower fairings afterward if I decide I need them?

a Limited FLHTK will have lowers...and for late models will have part of the cooling system in there

have a look at the various sub-models and see which comes closest to your wants

the "X" models have 12" shocks- the rest have 13"- important if you are doing distance with a passenger

By limited, I meant the specials. So the specials don't have the lower fairing. I am leaning toward the road glide. Will be test riding them this week.

Yes. I bought an SG and wish I had an RG. All the weight in the fairing is best attached to the frame (RG) versus the forks (SG) and if you go with big audio (do it) the amp and speakers will be really heavy. Plus, the design is better at speed and the cool factor is pretty good. EVERYONE has a bat wing.

When i get time I'm putting an RG fairing on mine.

where I was going is:

Get a little more familiar with the sub-models

The touring models vary slightly in the amount of plastic, number of speakers and some badgers.

the riding experience will vary with 12 vs 13" shocks, they type of fairing affects the handling greatly at speed- the wind experience varies.

science tells me the frame mounted fairing ( that what I had on the FXRP)- but I prefer the batwing

1.) wind/face

2.) a frame mounted fairing can make for an all day lean with a crosswind- my neck cricks

so that last time ( 2010) i bought the batwing - a FLHTC model ( no longer available) and added factory matched lowers- because I like them and they make my motor cooler in the heat- more air flow

I went from a heritage softail to a street glide. I thought the street glide was perfect just the way it was. Over the next few years I spent more to make it like an ultra than it would've cost just to buy an ultra to start with.

If I ever buy another new hd, it will be a road glide ultra. I should've rode a road glide more before I bought my street glide.
