Default Closed for Repairs

Got hit by a truck weeks ago. Towed my bike to our local dealer. When I took it in I was told it would be a 6-8 week repair because of parts. They've worked on it and have gotten most of it done but are still waiting on two parts...left front brake rotor and extension bolts to hold the inner fairing to the outer.

The rotor is finally coming but been told it would be another 8 days before HD would release and ship the extension bolts??

These bolts are on every bike out there with a fairing but no one seems to have them (they did do a dealer search after I called again).
I quizzed them about how there could be such a delay on such a common part...one that must be available for the manufacture of bikes so should be accessible 24/7.

Anybody else had this challenge with getting their bike repaired or can give me perspective as to why it takes so long to get such a common part?

Extension bolts that holds the inner to the outer???

On my 07 Ultra Classic there are exactly 7 screws that hold the two together, 3 windshield screws and 4 lower ones...
I thought all bat wings were similar. Is this a RG or???

You must be referring to the extension nut I presume, of which there are two.

If they are simple bolts, find the right lengths and thread, and buy them at a hardware store.

If it's what Dawg has pictured, they are called standoff's in the electronics world. Can be picked up anywhere that sells electronics, computer components, or electrical supply houses. Easily found online. Just need the specs on thread size and length of stand off.

Always available from McMaster-Carr. Even if you need to buy a box it's still pretty reasonable and you can have them tomorrow.

Dumb question but...were the old ones damaged in the crash? Re-use them to get you going?

Fairing bolts are 1/4"-20.

At any rate, the parts supply for production is kept separate from the supply for service. It can be extremely irritating but just think of the repercussions of shutting the whole line down because they are short a couple of standoffs. It's of little concern to them if you are unable to ride for a while, unfortunately.
