Default 2007 sporster 1200 xl custom leaking oil

Hey guys, i inherited my dads motorcycle. And ive come to find out its leaking oil. From what i can tell its the drain hose. I might be wrong, new to motorcycles. Ive attached a picture. Does anyone know what this is, or how to stop the leak?

It sarted leaking a couple days after about a 40 mile ride. Its emptied most of the oil in the tank.

That is the oil drain hose. Check that the plug is well secured. If it's leaking from there you just need to tighten the hose clamp.

So its leaking from the top of the drain hose. Ive checked the clamp at.the bottom its secure. Is there somthing that is supposed to secure that hose from the top end?

On the 2007 the hose just hangs down at the back of the engine.

Part #18 holds the pipe on the tank, #9 is the pipe, #10 clamp and #11 is the drain plug.

The manual just calls for the clamp to be done up securely.

Check for a split hose as well.

Like Andy pointed out, having diagrams is always helpful. This is a great resource:

So from what i can tell i think clamp 18 broke. Would that cause an oil leak?

Yes it might depending on how tight the hose fits to the tank. HD uses a special type of clamp on the tank but for the drain hose I would hope a jubilee clip would do.

Definitely check for a split in one of the three lines attached to the oil tank.

I had the same situation on my 2011 XL1200C. Took me a while to locate the actual cause. The drain line had a small tear (on the back side) near where it exits the oil tank.

When I replaced mine, last year, I used a small hose clamp. So far, so good.

A broken clamp could cause a leak, so could a split hose.

While I was in there messing with the clamp on a 20+ year old bike I'd just replace the hoses.
