Default Fuel Pump

Okay guys, seems I need your advice again.

The 4 times I've started up today, when fuel pump cycles up it has made a different sound from the usual. Before it was the soft high whine. Now it is " noisier". Pump signaling soon to fail? Partially stopped up filter so it's having to work harder?

Ran WOT to 90, and was not starving for fuel at all and is running good. '98 stock.

Suggestions/advise appreciated. Thanks. Ken

Agree, but also don't want to sit on the side of the road listening to the wife. IDK.
Thanks.

Thanks, Carl. Maybe I'm just gettin' a little squishy in my later years.

Are you for sure the fuel pump is noisy? I’ve had the IAC get noisy and then die. I’ve never gotten more than 30k miles out of those.

or another idea crazy it may sound. After my bike gets very hot and usually slow traffic.....sounds like the gas in the tank is boiling. Maybe you’re hearing this....

I replaced my fuel pump 8 years ago with a $49.95 unit off of Ebay. It makes different sounds at times but always runs perfectly.

Yep, I'm sure it's the pump. Taking a 4 hour ride to Paris, Tx tomorrow. Last time I tried to go there a couple weeks ago I had to turn back from shot front wheel bearings. Hope this trip is uneventful.

Getting louder is a tendency of a wearing fuel pump in the automotive industry, when or if it fails will still be a mystery. If it gives you peace of mind to replace it, replace it.

Kinda leaning that directon, Bagger. Have a couple of road trips planned, one to the Sisters in Kerrville, and one to the Pig Trail and Eureka Springs area. Would like those to go smoothly. But one never knows.

Kinda nice this mornin'. Think I'll fire it up and see which way it points. Have a good one.
