Default SE 255 Cam Question

First of all I AM NOT A MECHANIC.....I grasp basic knowledge and love to learn, but I know which lane to stay in and will NEVER crack open my own engine.
That being said..........
I have a 2015 Ultra Limited with about 21K miles(North Dakota rider). Started riding more 2up with the wife last summer. I would like more torque on the bottom end when we ride the hills(sturgis) and I also have a small trailer I will be pulling behind us more this summer as well when we travel.
Currently have Stage 1 done with Big Sucker air intake and V&H true duals. Also the HD Pro tuner installed last spring.
Since I have the tuner already I want to stay close to an HD map with the HD cam. Dealer suggested the SE255 so I don't have to do a lot of top end engine work, which I don't really want to do. I'll do the Cam plate, oil pump, bearings, chains, push rods and tensioner while they have it opened up.
I was thinking the SE 585, but he said most people haven't been real happy with those.
I know this is ONE of the ultimate rabbit hole un-answerable questions but.....Am I on a good path here
Help a guy the best you can:0)

Double check if there's a tune for those cams in your year and model of bike with that tuner. You may be surprised.

The true duals aren’t the best for low end torque. I had the SE 255scin my ‘12 TrGlide. They gave me the low end grunt unwanted,,,but at the expense of higher motor heat, and sensitivity to gas.

Might be a better choice than a 255 but it will give you more oomph! For sure.

The inner cam bearings should be replaced and the tensioner shoes are wear items that makes sense to replace while you have the cam chest open.

For the rest of the parts, unless they are clearly worn or broken I dont really see a need to change them. Aftermarket cam plates + pumps like S&S cost a lot of money that could be spent on more fun engine upgrades. There is nothing wrong with the function of the stock parts.

I am not totally familiar with all the SE tuners but for purposes of this response I have assumed the HD tuner is the SEPST which is a "flash" tuner. The HD maps are limited to HD products so there is no map for the Big Sucker intake and the V&H true duals and there will be no map for the SE 585. If the tuner is the SEPST and IIRC, the motor can be dyno tuned which will be the way to go for optimum performance.

The SE255 would be a good choice for the OPs application; stump pulling torque but at the sacrifice of top end HP. No need to run the SE255 since there is no map for the SE255 with the current intake and exhaust but the SE255 would still be an OK cam choice if dyno tuned. No need to replace the cam plate, oil pump, chains and push rods. Replace inner cam bearings and, if worn, the tensioners and retain the other OEM cam chest parts. Also replace the lifters, preferably with a set from WFO Larry.

I run the SE-255 cam in my SG and TG. No complaints. I got a great price form Surdyke HD when they were able to sell out of state.

YES!
The SE 255 was standard in the SE 110 on my '07 CVO Road King. Good low end torque. Extreme engine heat. The SE 255 is an emissions cam. Developed and use by HD to hold off the necessity of using CAT CONS. There are better cams for your application. Get a recommendation from an INDY shop. The HD dealer cannot install anything that will put your bike out of emission compliance.

Hey ND neighbor,
How soon are you doing your build? I have a perfectly good set of 255s I took out of my ultra when I installed my Andrews 48. (Thought my bike had stock cams and found out after I bought the Andrews that it had 255s.)
Anyway you’re welcome to them. Although if the dealer is doing your install they will likely turn their nose up at used cams.
regardless the offer is there.
