Default Local dealers is getting worse for new bike sales

So yesterday I called a dealer about their street glide limited in white. I said no trade just what is the cost OTD? I was told low to mid 40’s.
i said do you sell at MSRP? I was then told, we sell at market value.

Called next dealer and just told sales that I wanted street glide limited in white. I would put deposit down and wait. I just wanted to know the cost, He said let me talk to the manager and I will call you back.
So far, nothing.
Now this dealer has been calling me once a week ever since I test rode bikes at their demo day.

These dealers are an hour each way is the reason I called. I can not get there during the work week.
Are the days of MSRP + freight/prep gone?

You should suggest that they stick that $40,000+ up their ***.

MSRP - Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price

It is merely a suggestion; actual prices are heavily influenced by market demand, inventory levels, and dealer markups.

This is my goto dealer where I've bought several bikes. They dont play games, your desired bike is $36k. With sales tax, tag and title you should be just under $40k.

Below is my hometown dealer who also sells at MSRP

If you’re in NC, not sure how far you are from Charleston, but they were making good deals a few months ago…..

it's all location location location. My local dealer sells at MSRP if not a little lower depending on what it is and sells bikes to people all over the country. Guy from Colorado bought my Dyna I traded into them a week or so ago.

I don't remember any sort of "good old days" where dealerships didn't play games.
In fact Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath had some rather choice words about dealerships, and that was from the 1930's.

Generally speaking, finding the proverbial "best deal" takes some time and shoe leather. Sometimes one gets lucky and find that deal early on. Often times, it takes going to multiple places to have enough data to compare them all and see if anything actually stands out.

Even at that, one person may have a great experience at a given place, while another person has a lousy experience at the exact same dealership.

I have bought my last 5 Harley's all brand new from a dealer. Of course I had to deal with most of them because I wanted a certain model or a certain color, or it was at the end of the model year and they won't get any more like that so they stick it to you.
A few months ago there was a demo ride going on, and I went to the website and didn't see anything I was interested in riding.
The local dealers all have ADM and at a local dealer I walked up and saw on a new CVO Street Glide Limited, you know the pretty blue one, $16,000 ADM. That's crazy!
This Harley I have now, I bought used. The prices are just getting too high for me.
I hope you can find the bike you want at the price you like. Ride Safe.

Market demand, inventory levels and especially dealer markups are just more excuses for these greedy bastards to hike up prices to unwary consumers. Tell them straight to their face you demand MSRP or go elsewhere. There are very few reasons to charge over MSRP. Almost any dealer will back down when you call them on it, because they want to sell motorcycles, especially these days.
