Default Trucklite LED Headlight Feedback

Recently installed the Trucklite Phase 7 LED Headlight on my Fatboy and thought I'd post a review.

Kuyakyn re-brands the Trucklite and list it for $300.00 dollars. JP Cycles sells Trucklite for $240.00. I found it for $180.00 through Eastern Performance. Removing it from the box and inspecting it, I was impressed by it's construction and surprised by how heavy it was. It appears to be a very well made and durable product. The LED's fire rearward onto a reflective surface which provides a wider beam than earlier LED lights.

Installation is straight forward, plug and play. The lens protrudes out further than a stock headlight but in my case, with a light nacelle and french ring this isn't a problem.

Testing: The Trucklite cuts through the night and is a vast improvement over the previous OEM headlight however I discovered a strange phenomenon. I rolled the bike out of my shop into the sunlight, placed a jack under it to set it upright, switched the ignition on, and walked 50 yards away. The LED's are difficult to see in daylight and could be missed by approaching traffic.

Summery: I'm running auxiliary lights and originally intended to change them out to LED's also but have now decided against it. I'll keep the Trucklite headlight for it's night time illumination properties but will retain the Halogen auxiliary lights so that I'll be more visible to oncoming traffic during daylight hours.

Thanks for the review. There is a lot of room for the prices to come down IMO.

I agree. I'm also concerned about the lack of daytime visibility, as I don't run "passing lamps" on my bike.

Lack of daytime visibility might be due to the Truck-lite actually being designed for a 4-wheeled vehicle instead of specifically for a motorcycle - to quote Truck-Lite: "Excellent option for light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, off road vehicles, classic cars, motorcycles and more..." You know the old saying - Jack of all trades, master of none. I'd sure like Daniel Stern's opinion on these.

You want to be seen and see, HD's LED does both. I've got the Series 1 5-3/4" LED on my bike, and I've never had anyone NOT see me coming.

I run a 35w HID in my headlight. VERY bright and no problem getting seen. I have 881 LEDs in my aux lamps.

No doubt the reason you're so easily seen is that putting an HID bulb in a conventional halogen fixture scatters the light all over the place, including in other drivers eyes. On HID conversion kits:
