I would LOVE to have Ohlins shocks on my Softail! I might be able to get rid of my Spring seat:-)
I had Ohlins on my last bike and the suspension was the best by far of any bike I have ever ridden. Bumps in the road that would bounce me out of the saddle on previous bikes (and still do on my Harley) were laughed at by this bike. A great example: The small curb for a driveway ramp. I could not even feel the "bump" (transition from street to concrete ramp) the front and rear suspension was so well damped.
A few of my Harley friends were blown away when they test rode this my last bike:
Softails - Heritage, Fatboy, Deluxe - have same forks as 13 and older touring bikes, 41mm. Ohlins for 41mm should work. I have Ricors in my Fatboy and they helped. Just two days ago I installed Race Tech springs and Gold Valves in my touring bike. That is the way to go imo and only costs a couple hundred. Getting the correct spring rate for your weight and valving accordingly makes a big difference.
I have been thinking about going with Race Tech in the Heritage front end - the spring rate for the Ohlins cartridges is way more than what RT recommends for my weight. Certainly cost is more favorable with the RT.
The RT guys got me pretty close to what I needed, I figured I may have to adjust the preload spacer length a few times to get desired sag, but I got away lucky and didn't have to take things apart a second time.
A very firm ride with Works but a way more stable in fast corners with good or otherwise road surface. A couple of mix ups with Works but they DO make it right by the customer. If you go with Works make certain they know what you plan for the front forks. They didn't know I had RT up front, they didn't ask and I didn't tell them however it makes a huge difference how they set up the shocks.
