Cobra fi2000 ?????
So I just picked up my2008 Deluxe with 4500 miles on it. It came with python slip-ons and the cobra fi2000 fuel management. I just order V&H true duals(NO FISH TAILS) and a Ness Big Sucker. Will the Fi2000 read the new pipes and intake? I know there are carb like settings on the tuner, do I need to mess with them?
I have run over 10 bikes with the Cobra FI2000, FI2000R and FI2000R-CL
No need to play with them. However you can check their web site for the number each of the three pots need to be set at.
They last forever. All they do is check what the ECM is calling for the afr and increases it downstream. Usually to 12.8 to 1 which is a good power afr. So it does not matter as much with the Cobra unit. The HD ECM will sense the increased air in and exhaust out. Within an hour of running it will adjust the EMC to set the AFR against the standard set in the ECM back to 14.6 to I AFR. That is the job of the o2 sensors and the ECM. Whatever changes you make the ECM will adjust the AFR back to the emission compliant AFR.
They no longer sell the CL (closed loop) as they want you to buy their $600 auto programing unit.
All the bikes that I used them on ran stronger and noticeably cooler. Amazingly if you stay off the throttle and just cruise normal there will be an increase in mpg. I had the 103's to 52 mph and the 110's to 50 mpg.
Pot I functions the same as a low speed jet on a carb. Pot II is like raising the needle and Pot III is like the high speed jet.
Mark down the current settings if you want to play with them. The only thing that I did was turn them to zero when I went to the mountains. The first time that I was in the Rockies the bike would blow black smoke at idle and would hardly run along with horrible gas mileage. I had written the pot settings with a felt tip under the seat on the fender. So I just zeroed them until I was back on low level terrain.
If you cant find the numbers I have them for the TC96's.

I have the the same one with the o2 sensors. Mine runs flawless, no pop on decel ever, etc.
My brother has the same also. They work well.
You might have popped the cover off the little module under your seat (maybe?? thats where mine fit, snug but has worked for years, keeps it dry - note - I also have my module in a small plastic baggy with a twist tie to help against moisture).
When my brother and I have made changes to our bikes engines, we have tweeked the three adjustment screws inside the module. The adjustment works similar to a carbs settings. You can kind of feel where it's falling down when you ride it. Idle/low, mid and opened up. SLIGHTLY adjust the appropriate screw and do a short round the block test to confirm. We had to do it a couple times when making big changes, but then it would run great.
The cobra folks may have the settings available from them on the setup you are doing or a base to start from. If you have the o2 sensors, you should be good after tweeking it. Good luck.
Ps I contacted the cobra folks once and they were very helpful.
