Ride Wright Wheel question - Fat 50 has 50, right?
A guy locally here is advertising a Ride Wright Fat 50 on CL, but I'm only counting 48 spokes. I think he might be trying to pull a fast one, does RW truly have 50 spokes? I was almost certain I knew enough about fat spokes - DNA has 52 with a side mounted air valve; RW has 50 with a center mounted valve from what I understand, but who has 48, Ultima? Check out the ad, someone please verify I'm not missing two spokes on a spoke count, please. I don't want to spend $$ for something that's not what's advertised, or more $$ than what it's worth. Thanks.

Not sure, I haven't seen it in person yet, and probably will pass on it. I googled Ultima and yes, they are 48 spokes but only fit pre-99. I've got a 2008 Fat Boy and don't want to run into a lot of problems with fitting, spacers etc. Buddy of mine went w Ultima on his 2005 train and ended up going through hoops to get it to fit.

Yeah, claiming it's a new Ride Wright...I'll probably pass on it, he might be lying about it being new, too. Part of me wants to call him out, trying to make a big chunk of change, but I'll take the high road I guess.

Couple comments and points for you to consider...
It looks like Ultima is only showing 2000-later wheels now

Softails have the issues...
Your 2008 is a wide-hub along with a wide rim. Ultima won't have one for that. You would have to use a pulley spacer. Also the laced in offset is different for 2003-later softails. His 2005 is the std hub width, but has to still deal with the offset difference because it appears from examples of others using Ultimas on 2003-later softails that the offset that they lace in is the 2000-2002 offset (which is the same as the other Harley models)
In the Front...Softail wide-glide wheels have a different dimensional relationship between the left "Primary" bearing and the rotor mounting surface than the "Touring" wide-glide wheels.
So let's say a "Bagger" guy wants to go to a single side brake (from duals), you can't tell by Ultima's listing what you're going to get.

Yeah thanks I think he's BSing in his ad, he might have gotten taken for a ride and is trying to pass it off to the next guy for what he bought it as. He did mention in our conversation that it did not fit his ride, but should fit mine. No falling for that sales technique!
