I'm just under 5'9" with a 33" inseam. I run 14" apes on 1.5" risers, which puts my hands well below my shoulders. I am planning on adding 1" riser extensions, which will put my hands just below or at shoulder height. My seat is really low (Corbin Gunfighter & Lady), too.
I'm 6'1" and have 14" Carlini's with as small a riser I could find and the bars are tilted to about 11 o'clock so they aren't in line with the forks. The bars run tall and are above shoulder-height. Looks cool as hell but if I could do it over again I would have bought 12's. For long rides my shoulders get pretty sore.
14" with 2" risers @ 5'8". Runnin a C&C Solo seat which sits me lower and farther back. Bars are a tad higher than my shoulders which I like. Remember poly bushings when going to apes.
EDIT: Typoed, correcting the 16 to 14, dawned on me when I walked away > laffs

I think its funny on these how tall are you with apes threads how guys who are 6-8" taller than the guy asking about it still chime in! FWIW im 5'7 with 29 inseam and have 16's on my Fatboy. I rode over 800 miles last weekend and never had a bit of discomfort.

It's because it keeps your back straight if set up correctly, and not slunched over. Most have no idea.
I have 14" 1.5 diameter Carlini flying apes which is taller than the advertised height and I regretted not getting the 16"s and im a midget at 5'6" on a C&C solo seat. I should have followed my instinct since I've been on 18" apes before although not the 41.5" width of carlini.
