I recently changed oil, used HD 20W50 as recommended, bike hadn't been ridden for long rides in about 4yrs. Although had been around the block a few times. Noticed while out on the road, oil temp was running somewhat higher than normal around 250-255 F'. Not sure what's causing this, any ideas will help. Thanks

How hot was it outside? Are you running regular gas instead of premium? It might be running too lean. Any or all of the three can make it run hotter..

Temp outside was around 90F. and I always run with premium gas. Heard I should try Lucas oil treatment. I'm thinking of draining oil and replacing with new but substituting with 1qt of Lucas. Read that this should reduce temp by 15-20 degrees. Please advise I'm open to any advice at this point.

did you clean the oil screen? it might be slowing oil flow. it could be running lean causing it to run hot....did you wash the motor so there's no dirt built up in the cooling fins. you could try Valvoline VR1 syn 20w50 but you have to watch with evo's sometimes they will leak syn oil.

Will try cleaning the oil screen and washing the engine see if that helps. Thanks for the info.

Been sitting up are the key words. It's been awhile since I run across this but I always change fluids with a thinner oil for 50-100 miles then change it out with what's recommended. Fuel system needs attention too so I'll run a can of seafoam or something similar, amount varies on tank size.
Looking forward to pics, quite a few of us in here fond of the springer.
