i am just curious about safe operating temps. i have a oil temp gauge and have noticed in the summer heat (already close to 110 here) that its running about 200-210. i am planning a ride from vegas to houston, tx, this summer. going through the desert, i am sure it will get a bit toasty and dont want to run into issues.
Run synthetic oil and keep moving and you will be fine.
I ran through the desert in July on a old Triumph at 126F running dino oil and it was fine.
Lots of cars overheated though...
I ran at 65 mph, they passed me doing 80 with the AC on, 20 miles down the road they were smoking on the shoulder....
Its like riding in a blast furnace out there in the summer!
running synthetic and put on a fuel management system so i can run a bit richer. no longer see 200 (can get close), but i used to get over 200...
guess i have to admit that i have never ridden over 100 degrees!
I have never seen it higher than 200F for me and I am in SoCal and I've ridden in the hellhole that is the Inland when it got so hot outside that ice cream melted instantly you take it outside of the store you bought it from. The bike ran just fine.
